Benegas: future proof business operations with Business Central and FuelVision365

Benegas, part of DCC Energy Netherlands, has been supplying energy solutions to a wide range of customers for decades. From businesses without a natural gas connection to air conditioning companies, factories, and the retail sector, its product portfolio ranges from bulk gas and gas cylinders to refrigerants and autogas. “We serve a very diverse market,” says Erik Jan Van Zanten, IT Manager at DCC Energy Netherlands, who was closely involved at Benegas in the search for a new and scalable ERP solution.

The trigger: an outdated system that was holding back growth

The legacy ERP system Benegas was using was fully custom-built and ran on a heavily outdated environment. “Not all business segments were properly supported. The data structure was unclear, reporting was cumbersome, and we were dealing with a proliferation of manual processes,” Erik Jan explains.

Following the acquisition of Primagaz Netherlands, DCC gained access to Business Central. However, much of the existing Business Central expertise was based in Belgium, leaving Benegas in the Netherlands with insufficient support to future-proof the old system. The conclusion was clear: it was time for a new, modern, and scalable ERP solution.

Alistar speaks the same language as our gas industry

The choice for Business Central, FuelVision365 and Alistar

DCC Ireland had already been interested in Business Central with FuelVision365 for some time, and this combination proved to be the best fit. “Alistar speaks the same language as our gas sector,” says Erik Jan. “Your expertise in the energy industry gave us a lot of confidence, which meant an extensive shortlist of alternative solutions was not necessary.”

To guide the project, Benegas hired an external project manager who had already been involved in the acquisition. “We worked closely with Alistar, held many in-depth sessions, and step by step reviewed and improved our processes. All business segments are now fully operating on Business Central, and DCC regards this implementation as a model project within the group.”

How Benegas Uses Business Central Today

Business Central has now become the heart of the organization. Nearly all processes run in Business Central or are powered by Business Central as the central data hub:

  • Purchasing and sales
  • Finance
  • Inventory management
  • Service
  • Cylinder registration and deposits
  • Rental contracts
  • Tank management and telemetry
  • Price mailings
  • Trip registration
  • Gas meters and pipeline networks
  • Advance payments and final settlements
  • Advanced price management

Reporting used to be a challenge. Now we have clarity, speed, and reliability.

The results: more efficient operations, less manual work, and greater insight

The impact of the new ERP environment has been significant. The finance department in particular has noticed a major difference. “We’ve been able to reduce the size of the department without compromising on quality. Processes are faster and the margin for error is much smaller,” says Erik Jan.

“We are gradually building a fully integrated landscape where all information is available to everyone who needs it. Reporting used to be a challenge. Now we have clarity, speed, and reliability.”
