How Do You Choose the Right Tool? A Look at 3 Popular BI Tools

The right BI tool helps you harness the power of data through clear dashboards and visualizations, enabling your organization to make more informed, data-driven decisions. We compare three popular BI tools, discuss their key advantages and limitations, and offer tips for making the right choice.

Why Choose Power BI?

Power BI is Microsoft's solution that empowers everyone at every level of your organization to make confident decisions using up-to-date analytics and a no-code, drag-and-drop interface.

If you're familiar with Excel and the Microsoft suite, Power BI will feel like a second home. You can connect to virtually any data source, and since it's used by companies like Adobe, Gartner, and Forrester, you know you're in good hands.

In addition, it is one of the most cost-effective tools and comes with excellent security and governance protocols.

What is Looker Studio?

Looker is a web-based BI tool from Google that transforms data into clear, shareable dashboards and reports.

Advantages and Limitations Looker has a steep learning curve due to its use of LookML and operates entirely online, with no on-premises options. Visualizations can only be shared as PDFs, and the range of chart types is limited. The tool is particularly well-suited for self-service BI, provided that data models are prepared in advance by analysts.

Discover the Power of Tableau

Tableau, founded in 2003, is a leading data analysis platform with an intuitive low-code interface that lets you easily build compelling visualizations and interactive dashboards.

However, the tool is less suitable for complex data models and requires knowledge of R or Python, which makes the learning curve steep. In addition, it comes with a hefty price tag: rates start at €35 per user per month, making it more expensive than Power BI.
