Update the Gmail app to the latest version<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open the Google Play Store app on your phone. Type \u2018Gmail\u2019 in the search bar, and then select&nbsp;<strong>Update<\/strong>. If the update option isn't available, you already have the latest version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2. Open the Gmail app<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Click the menu icon in the upper-left corner &gt;&nbsp;<strong>Settings<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Add account<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Exchange<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you have an Outlook.com email address, such as @hotmail.com, and your calendar and contacts are stored there, choose Exchange. So choose&nbsp;<strong>NOT<\/strong>&nbsp;for Outlook, Hotmail, and Live, unless you want to set up the account as an IMAP account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alistar.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/activeren_android_1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54322\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3. Enter your full email address and tap Next<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, a complete email address such as&nbsp;<em>naam@hotmail.com<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>naam@jouwdomein.opmicrosoft.com<\/em>. After entering your email address, enter your password and click \"Next\" again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4. Continue through the wizard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow any prompts (pop-ups) that appear, including security permissions. You may also be asked to specify synchronization settings and a display name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you use Office 365 for Business, you may also be asked to specify additional security options. In that case, select&nbsp;<strong>Activate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5. Activate your inbox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now go to your inbox. If you see a message from \u2018Microsoft Account\u2019 with a subject line that starts with \u2018Action Required,\u2019 follow these steps (<strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;(If you do not receive this message but all your email messages are being synced, you do not need to complete these steps):&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the email message to open it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the link\u00a0<strong>Click here<\/strong>\u00a0If you want to sync with the Gmail app, enable it. If you'd rather download Outlook for Android, click the button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alistar.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/activeren_android_3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54321\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6. \u2018Unable to synchronize calendar and contacts\u2019 message\u2019<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you receive the following message from Gmail: \u201cUnable to sync calendar and contacts,\u201d an additional step is required to sync your calendar and contacts correctly (<strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;(If you don't see this, the calendar and contact information will be synced):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the message: \u201cUnable to sync calendar and contacts\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alistar.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/activeren_android_4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54320\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0Gmail is now asking for permission to access your account.
