Your smartphone, your laptop, your tablet\u2014it\u2019s all possible and \u2018mobile\u2019 thanks to the wireless signal. That signal is encrypted by your wireless router so it can travel through the air unreadable, after which your smartphone, tablet, smart thermostat, or IoT device decrypts it and makes it readable. That\u2019s secure\u2026 unless you\u2019re still using WEP encryption. Read on to find out how to tell if you\u2019re still using this weak encryption and what to do about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you check your Wi-Fi encryption?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Right-click the Wi-Fi icon and select Network &amp; Sharing Center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There you'll see the Wi-Fi network you're using. Click on it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, click \"Wireless Properties\" and then the \"Security\" tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you see WPA or WPA2, you're good to go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you see \"WEP\" or even \"No encryption,\" you need to take action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help! It says \"WEP\" or \"No encryption.\" What should I do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, you can\u2019t change the encryption settings from your PC. That\u2019s because they\u2019re controlled by your wireless router. Log in to your router\u2019s admin panel to change the encryption settings there. Your IT manager or IT partner can help you with this. Don\u2019t put this off\u2014as an extra incentive, we suggest you watch a video on YouTube showing how WEP encryption can be cracked in less than 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, this is a clear sign that, in general, IT security isn\u2019t a top priority at your company\u2014and that poses significant risks today. Is your password strong enough?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So you should make sure that your WPA PSK (Pre-Shared Key) has a complex password with \u2018random\u2019 characters, such as \u201c8j(h^4&amp;R3?zN^2@L\u201d. By the way, did you know that a WPA2\/PSK password can be up to 63 characters long? \u00a0So make your password \u2018strong\u2019\u2014that is, as long as possible and containing a mix of characters from different groups (upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters like \u2018^\u2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your employees only need to enter this password once, and their laptop, smartphone, or other device will then remember it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What about guests or visitors?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you frequently have temporary visitors whom you\u2019d like to provide Wi-Fi access to, we recommend setting up a separate Wi-Fi network for them that\u2019s easier to access and, moreover, completely separate from all your trade secrets. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alles is draadloos. &nbsp;Je smartphone, je laptop, je tablet. het kan en is allemaal \u2018mobiel\u2019 omwille van het draadloos signaal.
