Have you ever thought about gamification to boost your employees' motivation and productivity? Gamification is the application of game-based thinking and principles in a non-game context. Your employees can participate in work-related competitions and win prizes or awards as a result.
Please note: gamification is not the same as a rewards program. It is a way to motivate your employees to give it their all, both for themselves and for their team.
Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Gamification
With the gamification tool from Microsoft Dynamics 365 You can quickly set up work-related contests like this, based on a fun theme. Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Gamification is available through Microsoft AppSource.
Set up the game
First, choose a sports theme (soccer, racing, basketball, …) and a game type. For example, you can choose the game type ‘Fantasy Teams’, where your employees can put together their own sports teams with their own teammates. Or you can choose the game type ‘Fixed Teams’, in which a ‘game manager’ forms different teams, such as Division A and Division B. If you select ‘No Teams,’ employees play against each other individually, without teams.

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Gamification, you can then award points to teams or individual players based on key performance indicators (KPIs). These KPIs are based on data synchronized with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (online). Here are a few examples:
- number of phone calls made
- Percentage of sales quota achieved
- number of customer inquiries resolved
- number of new opportunities generated by a marketing campaign
- …

You determine how many points players receive when they have achieved a specific KPI or specific KPIs. For example, you award 5 points per phone call made, 10 points for resolving a customer inquiry, … .
Let the game begin
Once the sports theme and game type have been selected, the KPIs and points have been determined, and the players have been notified, the game can begin. The achieved KPIs are displayed on the players‘ individual profile pages. As an added incentive, you can also make the results and rankings visible to your entire organization—even to non-players—via public dashboards and leaderboards. This creates a real dynamism and healthy competition among your employees.

And the winner is …
In Microsoft Dynamics 365 – Gamification, you can use various prices and awards award based on the total number of points per KPI or across all KPIs, a player’s specific position, the top-performing team, … .

Our additional tips for gamification:
- Tip 1: Align your KPIs with your organization’s strategy and objectives. Gamification isn't just about playing games for fun. Gamification is designed to make your employees more motivated to perform their jobs better, to gain more knowledge, and to adapt to new applications (such as a new CRM platform, etc.)
- Tip 2: Make sure the proposed KPIs are achievable. If you set them too high, there's a good chance your employees will become frustrated. If you set them too low, the challenge won't be great enough, and your employees might get bored.
- Tip 3: Assign someone within your organization to be responsible for gamification. A ‘game manager’ is someone who oversees the progress of the competitions, the KPIs, and the rewards. He or she is enthusiastic about the concept of gamification and creates additional challenges.
