Dynamics 365 Project Operations: New Project Management App

Dynamics 365 Project Operations has been the since October 1, 2020 new project management app in Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Project Operations combines the best features of three existing tools: Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation, Microsoft Project, and Dynamics 365 Finance. With this, Microsoft is responding to customer demand for a single, unified project management application that includes the following features, among others:

  • management of personnel and resources;
  • cost management;
  • preparing project plans;
  • accounting.

End-to-end project management

Microsoft describes the brand-new app as follows: “An end-to-end project management app that empowers service-based businesses to win more deals, accelerate project delivery, and maximize profitability.”

In the video below, you can see how the app connects sales, resource management, project management, and accounting teams.

Dynamics 365 Project Operations is built on the Microsoft Power Platform. This means you can also use the application with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, and the other Microsoft Dynamics 365 business apps (such as Sales, Customer Service or Field Service)

What does this mean for the older app, Project Service Automation??

Microsoft will continue to support the older Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation application through October 1, 2024, but will no longer develop new features for this app. The focus is now entirely on Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
