Do you sometimes run into layout issues when formatting text in marketing emails?
For example, if you apply a nice style to a heading, a simple backspace can remove that style from the heading. Or suddenly, every other word appears in large font and the rest in small font. Or you want to use bullet points, and suddenly they’re huge.
Do these kinds of problems ever drive you completely crazy?
Marketing email layout editors can sometimes be frustrating. Below you will find simple tips to deal with this.
Use shorter blocks of text instead of long passages
Is there a problem with the formatting of a single block of text? Don't keep trying to fix it endlessly. The best tip for resolving the problem as quickly as possible: Clear the text block completely and start over.
Therefore, always use multiple, smaller blocks of text when laying out and designing your email. If a problem arises with the formatting of a single block of text, then the problem will remain limited to that one block and must you only need to reformat a small portion of the text.
Don't just copy and paste
It is important to understand the difference between “rich” text and “plain” text. Rich text is text that can be formatted using fonts, sizes, colors, bold, italics, images, tables, lists, etc. Rich text is used by word processing software. Plain text consists solely of letters, spaces, numbers, and punctuation marks. The text contains no formatting and never includes images, tables, or lists.
Problems with text formatting often arise when copying and pasting text from, for example, Word into an email layout editor. When the text is pasted, the formatting styles are copied along with it, and email editors cannot handle them properly. This leads to unexpected results, resulting in formatting issues.
There are several ways to avoid problems with copying and pasting text. First, you can simply compose your text from scratch in the editor. Or you can first paste your text into a plain-text program such as Notepad or TextEdit, then copy it from there into your editor and apply the formatting. This way, you avoid copying formatting styles along with the text.
TIP: Use the button to paste content from MS Word.
EXTRA TIP: Don't try to copy and paste images. That won't work. You'll need to upload images using the layout editor and then insert them into your email.
Line Breaks
Adding line breaks in the editor can sometimes be confusing. When you press “Enter” and expect a new line to be inserted, it sometimes seems as though two lines are inserted or that sections of text shift unexpectedly. By pressing “Enter” Pressing this button opens a layout editor that creates a new paragraph on. Just to one line break To insert, you can “Ctrl + Enter” (or Command + Enter on OS X).
