(Almost) everything about: Microsoft Server 2022!

Microsoft has launched Windows Server 2022, also known as Vnext or Windows Server 21H2. It is the latest version of the Microsoft Server operating system for on-premises data centers and virtual servers. Microsoft Server 2022 delivers innovations in security, hybrid environments, and the use of containers. Here is a detailed overview:

Editions of Microsoft Server 2022

Microsoft Server 2022 is available in three editions: Standard, Datacenter, and Datacenter Azure Edition. Would you say Server 2022 is suitable for any IT environment?

The latest technologies for securing applications and data

With Server 2022, you get the latest technologies to secure your applications and business data. This is achieved through multi-layered security between the operating system and the hardware. (Secured Core Technology Server and Multi-Layered Security)

Improved containerization

A container can be thought of as a package that contains not only the application but also all the prerequisites needed to run it. Server 2022 features improved containerization through advanced, customized performance monitoring via the “Admin Center.”.

Managing and Configuring Multi-Cloud Environments

There are hybrid cloud options in which Azure ARC allows you to manage and configure on-premises servers in a multi-cloud environment. This includes Azure policies, Azure Defender, and Azure Monitoring, among other features. Server 2022 also features a revamped and improved “Windows Admin Center” version 2103.

Flexible Workload Migration

Hyper-V Manager now features a new Action Bar. It enables live storage migrations and lightning-fast cloning of virtual machines. This means no more downtime and, above all, the assurance of business continuity. In addition, it is possible to move running workloads between servers with enhanced security. This is achieved through optimized CPU hyperthreading and secure workloads via CPU groups.

Support for nested virtualization for AMD CPUs

With this feature, you can set up a Hyper-V machine within another Hyper-V machine. Data from virtual environments—such as those of overseas branches—is then consolidated into a central virtual environment. This is useful, for example, during a temporary project.

Enhanced Disaster Recovery

When it comes to disaster recovery, in Server 2022 you can use server replication features, run your servers at different sites, and separate your storage pools from your site configuration.

7 More Benefits of Microsoft Server 2022

We promised to reveal almost everything about Microsoft Server 2022. That's why we're adding this extra list of benefits:

  • Improved storage migration, including DFSN migration,
  • Support for NetApp arrays,
  • The integration for Azure File Sharing—a cache for the Azure File Share on your local infrastructure.
  • An updated file transfer integration. You can now manage a larger storage capacity, pause a file transfer, and monitor performance in real time.
  • Updated SMB features with support for 256-bit AES encryption and direct RDMA.
  • There is a special security measure for cryptocurrency.
  • Server 2022 comes with the latest Edge browser, based on Chromium technology.

In summary

All improvements focus on security, the application platform, and management. If you would like (even) more technical background information, please contact us.
