In January 2011, Carrefour announced its plans for the ‘DESADV and SSCC rollout’ to 350 suppliers during a GS1 information session. The goal was to optimize and streamline the receipt of goods at its distribution centers.
What is a DESADV?
The DESADV, also known as the Dispatch Advice Message, is an electronic packing slip. This EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) message contains all the details of a shipment. EDI refers to the standardized electronic exchange of data to increase efficiency and reduce administrative costs. EDI occurs when there is a direct exchange of data between computers at one company and another—typically between a manufacturer and a customer.
On October 1, 2012, Carrefour took an important step toward ensuring that all goods delivered to its central distribution centers are labeled with SSCC labels. This summer, several ESC customers decided to use FoodMaster to generate their SSCC labels in an integrated manner.
By December 31, 2012, all customers who are not yet using the EDI-Invoice—which Carrefour has been using for quite some time—must be onboarded en masse. FoodMaster is also ideally suited to address this requirement in an integrated manner.
In addition to Carrefour, Lidl also announced its plans in November to quickly begin implementing EDI invoice messages.
Initial testing of Foodmaster is now in full swing and the system will be ready to go live in early 2013.
This offers several benefits to suppliers:
- Faster receipt of goods.
- Fewer disputes.
- Shorter wait times for the carrier.
- A faster response to disputes, resulting in faster payments.
