Copilot, Guides, and More: Dive Deep into the New World of Dynamics 365 Field Service!

Microsoft recently announced that it is introducing new AI-powered features that will significantly improve the productivity of frontline employees. These innovations are based on insights from the Microsoft 2023 Work Trend Index Annual Report.

The Importance of Direct Access to Information

The report shows that the difficulty in finding necessary information is one of the most disruptive problems faced by frontline employees. These challenges have a direct impact on KPIs such as ‘first-time fix rates’ and customer satisfaction. Microsoft recognizes this need for immediate access to information and has therefore introduced new AI-driven features in Dynamics 365 Field Service.

Faster Access to Information

To give frontline workers faster access to information in the workplace, Microsoft is introducing new AI-powered experiences in Dynamics 365 Field Service. These features enable employees to ask questions and express their needs in natural language. This allows them to receive specific information related to their work orders, such as status updates, required parts, or instructions for completing the task. This feature is available in Microsoft Teams and will be in public preview starting in December 2023.

Enhanced Mobile Experience with Next-Generation AI

Earlier this year, Microsoft enhanced the user experience in Dynamics 365 Field Service Mobile to enable front-line technicians to easily access essential information. Now, this experience is being further enhanced with next-generation AI. Through the public preview of new Copilot capabilities in Dynamics 365 Field Service Mobile, front-line technicians can quickly get a summary of key points in a work order without having to navigate through different tabs. They can also easily provide updates by talking to Copilot and describing their progress.

Revolutionary Mixed Reality for Frontline Workers

For frontline workers who need to work hands-free, Microsoft is introducing Copilot in Dynamics 365 Guides, which allows users to point to complex machines that require service. Copilot searches for information from technical documentation, service data, training content, and other customer-curated data sources. In addition to suggestions, Copilot can project holograms into the real world, revolutionizing the way operational tasks are performed. This feature will first be available in private preview for customers with Microsoft HoloLens 2 and will later become more widely available to mobile users.

Improved Workflows for Frontline Managers Thanks to Copilot

For frontline managers, the Copilot in Dynamics 365 Field Service Outlook add-in reduces their workload by streamlining the work order creation process through pre-filling relevant details from emails. This feature will be available starting in December 2023. Frontline managers can also use Copilot in Microsoft Teams for scheduling, making it easier to find the right employee for the job.

Enhanced Work Order Management Experience

A redesigned work order management experience in Dynamics 365 Field Service is now generally available. This experience not only provides concise information about the work order but also suggests relevant next steps based on booking statuses and supports quick updates inline or in a side panel so you don’t lose context. Copilot is also available in preview within this experience to provide frontline managers with intelligent summaries, allowing them to stay up to date without having to navigate through all the information in a work order.

Efficiency Through Integrated Solutions

With the shift toward proactive, predictive, and prescriptive field service, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service will offer customers free access to Dynamics 365 Guides and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist starting in December 2023. These tools enable technicians to follow step-by-step instructions and collaborate in real time with remote experts via mobile devices when additional assistance is needed.

In addition, customers can purchase Dynamics 365 Field Service Contractor to provide essential work order management functionality to third-party contractors. This simplifies onboarding as companies expand their field service operations to meet demand.

Optimized Data Flow Between the Front Line and the Back Office

In the public preview, scheduled for early December 2023, the seamless data flow between Dynamics 365 Field Service and Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management ensure that the front line and the back office are in sync. This integration reduces the effort required to Dynamics 365-connect apps to each other, with real-time pricing and cost data for work orders and automatic updates to financial and inventory data during the execution of work orders.

To explore the benefits of these innovations, we recommend asking your IT administrator to sign up for the public preview and enable these new features. These additions to Dynamics 365 Field Service will help you increase operational efficiency and provide a seamless experience for your frontline workers.
