Important Security Upgrade for Continia Document Capture (OAuth)

All customers using an older version (older than 6.50) of Continia Document Capture must upgrade to the latest version of Document Capture by October 1, 2022. The reason is that authentication between the mailbox and Document Capture can no longer use OAuth 1.0; it must now use OAuth 2.0. The latest version of Continia Document Capture supports this. What does this upgrade mean for you as a customer?

What is OAuth?

OAuth is an authentication protocol that provides access to your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central-installation from external services, including Continia Document Capture / Output Service.

As of April 22, 2022, OAuth support has replaced basic authentication as the authentication protocol in Office 365. As of that date, customers must use the following in Continia Document Capture / Output: OAuth 2.0. In addition, OAuth 1.0 is no longer supported in the new version.

Why upgrade?

The integration between Continia Document Capture and the mailboxes where documents for Document Capture are submitted does not currently comply with the latest information security standards. Continia’s authentication method, which is based on older OAuth APIs, no longer complies with the latest security standards and is as of October 1, 2022 No longer supported.

For this reason, it is important to upgrade to the latest version of Continia Document Capture so that modern authentication techniques are used. For example, passwords are never visible to the receiving party, and the OAuth 2.0 protocol also supports the single sign-on principle.
