▶️ What is AOV, or average order value?

Average Order Value

Average Order Value (AOV) is an important e-commerce term that refers to the average value of an order placed with an online store. AOV is calculated by dividing the total revenue for a given period by the total number of orders during that same period.

AOV is an important metric for e-commerce companies because it can help determine the average order value of customers and how it changes over time. This, in turn, can help identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve profitability. For example, if a company’s AOV is low, using upselling and cross-selling techniques can help increase the average order value.

Monitoring the average order value (AOV) can also help assess the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and discount promotions. By tracking the AOV before and after a promotion, a company can determine whether the promotion was successful in increasing the order value.
