NIS2 Guidelines: What You Need to Know for Better Cybersecurity in the EU

With the entry into force of the NIS2 Directive on October 18, 2023, organizations in the EU will face stricter requirements regarding network and information security. These guidelines are intended to strengthen cybersecurity within the EU and help organizations better protect themselves against cyber threats.

The Evolution of Cyber Threats

The digital world is constantly evolving, and cyberattacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated. NIS2 is designed to provide a more robust security foundation for organizations in the EU, so they are better prepared for potential cyber incidents. This is crucial for ensuring service continuity and protecting sensitive data.

Check whether you need to comply with NIS2:

  • Do you have fewer than 50 employees and annual revenue of less than 10 million euros? Don't worry! This isn't required for you, but we strongly recommend it.
  • Do you have more than 50 employees or revenue exceeding 10 million euros?
You can use this document to determine your status: important, essential, or subject to registration.

Registration

If you are subject to NIS2 as a critical or essential entity, you must register via the link below. This must be done by December 18, 2024, for digital sectors, or by March 18, 2024, for other sectors.

What security measures should you take?

Depending on whether you are required to register or not, there are a number of security rules you must follow. You can view them via the link below.
Security Rules

nIS2 sectors
  • Small: Any business can check this out; you need virtually no technical knowledge.
  • Basic: These are the basic cybersecurity requirements that every company must meet.
  • Important: If your status is “important,» these are the minimum requirements you must meet.
  • Essential: If your status is “essential,” these are the minimum rules you must follow.

The higher your status, the more detailed and comprehensive the description of the security measures.

Continuous Cybersecurity Process

No matter what level your organization operates at, cybersecurity is a constantly evolving process. Security measures must be evaluated regularly. By proactively implementing the new guidelines, you can not only meet legal requirements but also strengthen your organization’s overall security. You’ll get the most out of your investment by performing regular maintenance.
