A VLAN, or Virtual Local Area Network, is actually part of a larger physical network. Most network administrators divide a large physical network into smaller segments called VLANs.
Groups are created in a logical manner within that VLAN. This allows different departments to have their own VLANs containing their PCs, servers, printers, and so on. The main advantage of these virtual network groups is that they are isolated from one another, so communication between the networks is not possible. This also allows security measures to be implemented on a per-VLAN basis. The different groups are identified numerically. Each group has its own number, which makes management much easier.
Of course, cybersecurity involves much more than just a VLAN. Effective cybersecurity starts with a solid cybersecurity strategy!
